REFLECTEUR – Issue 78
Posted by Lizzy Bogacki | February 24, 2011We’re sorry issue 78 of Reflecteur is a bit late, but we make up for the tardiness in quality. This issue is a bit bipolar – much like the Internet itself.
Page one focuses on two poignant items currently popular in digital culture:
The first, a film called “The Chapel,” is a stunning example of our ‘Talent Required’ and ‘How to’ themes from the most recent recap presentation. It also touches on another theme we often see – the way we humans seem to love to uncover hidden gems in our world.
The second item is a the first ever group page created on 1000memories, a site that allows users to create virtual memorials to those they have lost. Egypt Remembered collects images and information on those killed in the protests across Egypt earlier this month. A great example of the universality of photos, the gallery brings home the human cost of the protests better than any article or news piece could.
Page two is more flippant and ridiculous:
We start with an amazingly bizarre video blog called “Dancing Alone to Pony”…. as in the Ginuwine hit from the late 90s. Apparently there are countless videos on YouTube of people filming themselves dancing alone to pony. Anyone who has uploaded their own version may want to go delete it right now.
Finally, we take a look at the hacking culture. But did you know that hacking can move beyond the digital and into analog? This example takes its inspiration from a TED presentation and combines it with a pet hamster. Really. Crabfu Artworks created a mini-Strandbeest powered by Princess the hamster. It’s pretty cool, but you really have to watch to fully understand.
As always, Reflecteur can be shared with clients and partners outside the agency. For any questions or additional information contact your agency lead or Reflecteur editor, Ellen Bird ().
