PLAYED – November 2012
Posted by John Rafferty | November 26, 2012Hopefully we caught you before we all head out to feast on some deliciousness and spend some much-needed time with friends and family. Though the holiday cheer is coming on full-force, we haven’t forgotten the task at hand by giving you the latest and greatest in gaming.
We start the holidays off right with a gaming gift guide…though not which videogames we need to play, but instead, gadgets and gizmos that make our holiday wish list. But we didn’t just make a list to send our friends and family (ahem), we also dive into the paradigm of mobile apps and games – how long does it take for you to realize you have games that you’ve played a whole 2-3 times before you’ve moved on? We feel you.

We also say goodbye to the television era of gaming news with Attack of the Show and X-Play bidding adieu; but not to fret as the wonderful world of the interwebs has gamers’ varying whims covered. Minecraft also hits an all-time high with its ever-increasing sales in both PC and Xbox 360 numbers; with over 4MM sold on Xbox LIVE Arcade, it makes it the first non-FPS to hit the top spot.
We also take dive into the benefits of gaming and how leveraging its mechanics and attention-grabbing ability are being put to use to help with anger management and PTSD. Though progressive, research has started to reveal that these innovative technics gives physicians a new outlet to help their patients. Lastly, we’ve been noticing a trend in our local malls outside of bearded Santas: GameStop Kid stores have opened 80 new locations that features E-rated videogames, accessories, and toys. Unlike the typical GameStop stores, these children-centric stores make it easier to find age-appropriate games and peripherals, making shopping that much easier (or difficult if you have said-child with you).
