Summer’s finally here and if you’re like most of us here at Denuo, you’re starting to put those vacation days to good use. Until I rise up from the ranks of an intern, I only have the authority to talk about vacation days, not use them. But that’s OK, that’s how it should be after all. For those of you who do have upcoming vacation plans, I thought I’d give a shout out to 3 apps that make traveling effortless and stress-free.

1. It is always helpful to be prepared. Doing some research on your destination before you depart helps you avoid problems and keeps you safe. Smart Traveler, developed by the US State Department, provides you with country-specific information, including travel warnings, entrance requirements, and a helpful Know Before You Go feature.

2. We all have this paradoxical travel complex of wanting to see all of the sites while avoiding looking like a tourist (a fancy word for clueless idiot). It’s always nice to avoid the embarrassment of being herded through a city by a group tour guide. PocketGuide helps you keep a low profile. It tracks you by GPS and gives you audio-guided themed tours in 65 cities around the world.

3. If you’re the adventurous type who prefers to wander aimlessly and explore, Wikitude is the app for you. If you hold up your phone’s camera, it uses augmented reality technology to reveal points of interest around you.

These apps will help make you a better, well-informed traveler, or dare I say it, tourist—But hopefully you’ll look up from your smart phone every now and then and take the time to absorb your surroundings!
