the 100 best music tracks of 2008

Posted by Dan Buczaczer | December 30, 2008

The last two weeks of December are my favorite time of year but not because of the Christmas spirit and goodwill and peace towards all. It’s because I love lists. Kind of to the point of obsession. Gripe all you want about the cheapening of journalism…tell me there’s a list inside a magazine featuring the Top 10 or 40 of something and I’m probably breaking out my wallet. Why? Lists are fun. They instantly provide food for thought in the most simple design interface of all: a column of content in ranked order.

las vegas, you’re doing it wrong

Posted by Eric Bee | December 23, 2008

spn4201the-rat-pack-postersFor a one-week honeymoon in Las Vegas, my beautiful new bride had one, solid rule: no work.  No emails to L.A, admonishing their lack of gamerscore.  No phone calls to Benny pretending to be a FSU fan with a grudge.  Nothing of the sort.  However, while taking in the sights and sounds of the Strip, I couldn’t help noticing how certain parts of Vegas have ignored the advancing march of technology.  To its benefit, Vegas keeps itself somewhat sheltered from the future to protect its certain charm and customer service industry, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t trying to play it cool, boy.  After a few days, Wife and I found a part of this desert oasis that boasted innovation and a taste of tomorrow.   But, from what we saw, the future of Vegas could be headed in a direction that would make Sinatra smash a cocktail glass over the city’s collective head.  Papa’s new pair of ugly shoes are after the jump.

the alternative obama logos

Posted by Benny Torres | December 22, 2008

obama-08-logoSome alternative Obama logos have popped up – along with an interview outlining the history and strategy behind the now famous “O.” It’s interesting to note  first “millennial” president (or so people say) is also the one who was more throughly and deliberately “branded.” There was some real thought and thinking behind the logo and what it represented – which is more than can be said for most campaign logos. Personally, I love the logo that was eventually picked but seeing the strategy and meaning behind it makes it even cooler.

10 components to viral videos

Posted by Matt Gibbs | December 19, 2008

After seeing Parry Gripp’s latest viral hit, , I realized that he’s gotten really good at two key elements of viral hits:  cute animals and catchy music.  So what are the others, you ask?  I’ll detail each of them with examples below.  While I’d love to see (or create) a video that contains all ten, most “hits” only feature a perfect execution of one of these components.
Note:  This list is for viral videos in general, not specific to branded efforts.

feeling manly in toronto?

Posted by Anisha Ahluwalia | December 18, 2008

Or hungover in NYC?
Or naughty in London?
My hunch is that happens to us on average about 2.3 times per month.

london

That’s why this is a brilliant concept. Which would be absolute gold if married with Yelp’s rich vault of content.
