The Object of the Game Is To Make the Game, 2

Posted by John Rafferty | November 28, 2008

To pick up on part one of this post, LittleBigPlanet‘s chief raison d’être was to be the creation and sharing of unique user levels, satiating users’ game development desires while concurrently extending the gameplay experience for the whole LBP community. Unfortunately, it seems that promise was too good to be true as user-created levels have been disappearing left and right thanks to Sony’s new ‘moderation’ guidelines. Despite the wave of deletions, DIY-gamers are still building extensive, fan-favorite additions, including this Street Fighter-influenced gem by…

Un-Dead Bringing Next-Gen AI To Life

Posted by John Rafferty | November 27, 2008

I’ve never really been a big zombie fan; I haven’t seen most of the undead horror flicks or read up on the apocalypse survival guides. Exposure to Jacko’s “Thriller” video at a tender age (awkward) probably influenced my disdain for brain-eaters’ media, though it’s also probably one of the reasons why my latest gaming obsession has taken over like the zombie need to feed. Left4Dead (L4D), developed by industry visionary Gabe Newell and his crew at Valve, is a four-player cooperative action title casting you and 3 of your friends as the remaining ‘survivors’ battling to outlast the relentless zombie hordes through four distinct scenarios. The most absurd part, aside from shotgunning zombies in the face and saving your comrades from becoming brain stew, is the fact that your play-through experience will never be the same twice thanks to Valve’s ingeniously evil creation, “Director AI” through procedural narrative.

Reload your shotgun and hit the jump to read on.

Internet Memes, I Salute You

Posted by Benny Torres | November 27, 2008

You’ll rarely see me embedding YouTube videos on Denuology – but there are some things you simply can’t let pass you by. America got Rick Roll’d today, please see above if you weren’t blessed enough to see it live. It’s tough to really pick out a single entity to give credit to here. NBC, the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, Cartoon Network, Rick Astley, and Foster’s Home For Imaginary Friends all seem possible suspects. Regardless, this is truly a momentous day for internet culture. All that’s left is for scientists to prove that God exists for the sole purpose of Rick Rolling him (it?). I anticipate it’ll take a couple months. Click the link below for the wholly appropriate way I discovered this this morning.

Influencers?

conversation

Influencers and Word of Mouth are hot topics among marketers, planners and researchers – and for good reason. Influencers can affect anything from consumers’ brand preferences to their spending habits through just a single conversation. Whether it’s as small as where to get your hair cut or as big as what firm to trust with your retirement money, conversations are constantly happening, and knowing who the influencers are and what they think about the brands in the category is imperative.

Nate Silver: Superstar

Sure, Barack Obama won an election, but the hearts and minds of the internet and media in general were won by Chicago’s other political wunderkind, Nate Silver. Having predicted the results of the 2008 presidential election almost to the exact result, Silver’s a fairly popular guy right now, earning multimillion dollar book deals and appearing on news programs almost daily. However, The Internet has elevated him from your typical popular political analyst to a pop culture icon. Example below, kids.
